IDEAS THAT WORK™

Pinkard Alan "Pinky" Brand has been involved in the domain name industry since 1996. He co-founded two multinational domain name registrar and portfolio management companies that count the world's most recognized trademark holders as clients---generating total revenues in the tens of millions of dollars.

The first, in 1996, was Internet Domain Names, Inc. d/b/a idNames. That company was among the first in the world to develop commercial worldwide domain name registry search software and a corresponding database of registration requirements for over 200 country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs), as well as introducing the concept of online intellectual property protection and management of domain name portfolios. He led the sale and integration of idNames to Network Solutions in 1998. It was the first company acquired by Network Solutions after they went public.

Pinky then went to work for Network Solutions managing their ccTLD name registration and corporate domain records management business unit from 1998 to 2000. He oversaw its expansion into Asia-Pacific and Europe, including offices and representation in Hong Kong, Greater China, Japan, Korea, United Kingdom and continental Europe.

After VeriSign acquired Network Solutions in 2000, Pinky led the market development efforts for the Digital Brand Management Services (DBMS) business unit at VeriSign until the entrepreneural bug bit him again.

In mid-2002 he co-founded Arcemus LLC, a boutique corporate domain name management registrar that specialized in ccTLDs. Iron Mountain (NYSE: IRM) acquired his company in 2004. He served as Vice President of Marketing for their Domain Name Management Services for two years before assisting dotMobi with their sunrise, land rush and general launch periods.

Pinky has been an active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) since 1997 and has volunteered his services to several of its committees. He's a member of Mobile Monday, is CLE-certified by the Virginia State Bar, and speaks regularly around the world about domain names, mobile Internet ecosystem opportunities and intellectual property protection.

Pinky is a proud founding member and past President of the (80+ member) Houston, Texas chapter of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization, (now known as Entrepreneurs' Organization) which is allied with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

Pinky holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio-Television and Film from the University of Texas at Austin and resides in Dublin, Ireland.
